Our Ethos
At Walton Under Five Pre-School, we aim to provide a safe, happy and fully inclusive environment where every child is valued and respected, regardless of race, religion, gender or background.
Through play, creativity and discovery, our experienced team nurture curiosity, build confidence and encourage children to develop at their own pace. Our pre-school follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, while our breakfast club provides a welcoming and relaxed start to the school day.
We encourage children to develop a positive attitude, respect themselves and others, and celebrate what makes everyone unique.
We work closely with parents and carers to support children's development, wellbeing and transition to school.

About Us
Established in 1995, Walton Under Five Pre-School has been part of the village community for over 30 years and based at Walton Village Hall since 1999.
As a charity, we provide early years education and breakfast club wraparound care for local families.
We have longstanding links with our neighbouring Walton C of E Primary School, where many of our pre-school children continue their education.
We aim to make this transition as positive and reassuring as possible for children and their families.
Our Setting
Located in the Somerset village of Walton, just a short drive from Street and Glastonbury, our pre-school is based in Walton Village Hall, a stone's throw from Walton C of E Primary School.
Our bright, spacious indoor environment provides a welcoming space for children to learn and play. Outside, children enjoy access to our own garden, the village playing field, nearby park and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). We also have opportunities to use the neighbouring primary school's Forest School area, helping children connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors.
Our Approach
Our pre-school follows a free-flow approach, giving children the freedom to choose activities that spark their curiosity and follow their own interests.
By combining child-led play with carefully planned adult-led activities, we help children develop confidence, independence and essential skills, laying strong foundations for their transition to primary school. Find out more here
Keeping You Connected
We use Tapestry, a secure online learning journal, to record and share your child's experiences and progression in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Parents and carers can log in to view their child's progress, celebrate milestones and share observations from home, helping us work together to support each child's learning journey.
Sessions and Opening Hours
Pre-School | Ages 2–4
We offer flexible sessions to suit the needs of children and their families.
Our pre-school is open Monday to Friday, with afternoon sessions available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Children can start at 08:00 or 09:00, with collection at 12:00 (before lunch), 13:00 (after lunch) or 15:00 (Tuesdays and Wednesdays only).
Breakfast Club | Ages 5–11
Our breakfast club provides a friendly, relaxed start to the school day for primary school children.
Monday to Friday | 08:00–08:30
Our Committee: Working in Partnership
Walton Under Five Pre-School is a registered charity, supported by a volunteer committee made up of parents and members of the local community.
The committee oversees the running of the pre-school, including finances, staffing and governance, and works closely with our teaching team to ensure we continue to provide a safe, nurturing and high-quality environment for children.
Fundraising is also an important part of our work, helping us invest in new equipment, resources and experiences for the children.
